This country-loving family was looking to build their forever home on an acreage nestled into the green fields under the big skies of rural Iowa. This family is busy with 4 young children and a business, so they needed a hard-working home that was low-maintenance and family friendly. Porches to the East and west maximize sunset and sunrise views and allow plenty of opportunity for outdoor entertaining. This family requested a modern farmhouse aesthetic, but to keep things interesting, we wove in some details (like the fluted wood walls) that lean a bit more modern than farmhouse.
The powder bath features whitewashed shiplap and a pretty wallpaper. The herringbone tile adds another layer of texture & interest and is repeated elsewhere in the home as well.
Rustic, textured wood was also woven throughout the project in the Rough Sawn beams that frame the ceilings, fireplace and kitchen entry.
How do you make modern feel cozy? By incorporating texture and warmth. The fluted walnut panels provide just that. They’re an unexpected, but delightful detour from the shiplap that is elsewhere in this home.
"It was a vital part of making our home what it is. Without her help, we wouldn’t have been nearly as satisfied with the end results. I HIGHLY recommend working with her on any of your design needs!”
